About Apex

Incorporated in 1873,  it is so named for its location as the highest point on a portion of the Chatham Railroad which apex water tower extends between Richmond, Virginia and Jacksonville, Florida. The town is situated 20 minutes southwest from Raleigh. Apex is highly acclaimed with a “charming downtown, top-notch schools, and community spirit. The town’s proximity to Research Triangle Park has encouraged residential development, yet the town has managed to preserve its small-town character. Tour historic Hughes and Salem Streets. Visit the circa-1914 Union Depot, originally a passenger station for the Seaboard Air Line Railroad. The depot now houses the Apex Chamber of Commerce.  With more than 60 commercial buildings and homes dating from 1870 to 1940 plus a district on the National Register of Historic Places, Apex is restoring its turn-of-the-century railroad heritage.
